Welcome Fr. Simon de Gale to St. Theresa's Parish!

Posted : Nov-16-2021

St. Theresa's Parish welcomes Fr. Simon de Gale as its newest Pastor starting Monday, November 8th, 2021. He succeeds Fr. Bienvenido Ebcas, Jr. who is currently on medical leave.

About Fr. Simon

Fr. Simon has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Toronto for 27 years. He returned this past June 2021 from a year of ministry at the Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, where looked after the parishes of St. Michael in Behchoko and Our Lady of Fort Providence.

Prior to this, he was the Pastor of St. John XXIII Parish in Flemingdon Park (near the Ontario Science Centre) for 12 years. He considers his arrival at St. Theresa's a homecoming, having spent his formative years at St. Augustine's Seminary, the parish's next door neighbour.

Before coming to Canada, he lived in England for 8 years where he began his studies for the priesthood. Fr. Simon originates from the island of Grenada in the Caribbean.

We welcome Fr. Simon to our parish and pray that his ministry will be filled with God's blessings.

Thank You and Best Wishes, Fr. Ben!

Our parish is deeply grateful to its previous Pastor, Fr. Bienvenido (Ben) Ebcas, Jr., for all that he was able to accomplish during his brief ministry at St. Theresa's Parish.

During his time, he:

  • Mde Holy Communion safely available to all parishioners at the height of the second and third wave of COVID-19,
  • Commissioned roof repairs of both the church and the rectory,
  • Restarted the weekday Masses in the parish,
  • Installed additional speakers to enhance the experience of the liturgy, and
  • Introduced the devotions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help, St. Jude Thaddeus, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

He will be remembered for his deep love for the Mass and for his heartfelt homilies.

A proper thanksgiving and farewell Mass will be celebrated in our parish as soon as Fr. Ben is able to do so. Let us pray for his health, comfort, and strength.
