First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion marks the wonderful beginning of sharing at the table of the Lord with the whole Church at your local parish. Parishes take care of the entire sacramental preparation process for First Holy Communion, which usually starts at around seven (7) years old and above. Whether or not their children attend a Catholic school, the parents are to register their family for the preparation at their parish.

Confirmation

Confirmation is that special event where the Bishop seals the baptized with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. It intends to root us more deeply as sons and daughters of God, strengthen our bond with the church, and send us for mission as men and women for Christ. Preparation classes are done at the parish and culminate with the Sacrament of Confirmation at a designated time.

Becoming Catholic (through the RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a program of the Catholic Church, is oriented towards those who are searching and inquiring about the Catholic way of life. These people are initiated into the Catholic Church through the celebration of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist, also known as the Sacraments of Initiation. While this program is oriented for adults, it also accepts teenagers who are mature enough to participate in the RCIA.

Marriage

Marriage is a beautiful sacrament of life and love in the Catholic church. Couples planning to be married should contact the priest one year in advance to truly prepare for this momentous event. A marriage preparation course is mandatory for those seeking marriage in the Archdiocese of Toronto.
